Skittle Experiment

Nursery 3s have been celebrating British Science Week, as well as Holi, the festival of colour! To bring them both together the children have taken part in a science experiment involving colorful skittles! We talked about the experiment and the resources we were using. The children noticed the water we were adding must be hot as there was “steam coming off!” The children made predictions about what might happen when we added the hot water to the skittles. They said the “colours would melt off” and “it will all turn to one big colour!” We added the water which excited the children and they made observations on what was happening, saying “they are melting” and “it’s making a rainbow!” We talked about if it would still have worked if the water was cold, the child’s did not think so! We also talked about the changes to the skittles, such as the way they looked and how they might taste now!

This is a very easy but effective activity that can be repeated at home!
